It's 2009 and I just read in the CBC that "It's now illegal to light up a cigarette in a vehicle carrying a child in Ontario, the second province to institute such a ban"
1.
It makes sense, a car is an enclosed area just like a restaurant or mall so we should be protecting second-hand smokers, such as children, who don't have a choice. In fact, it's almost insane that it took so long when you consider how enclosed a car is. Compared to a restaurant or a mall, a car has very little volume to fill up with smoke. Children are strapped down to a seat and have no option to leave a 20 minute drive inside a smoke filled box.
And then I realize that other populated provinces, like British Columbia, do not have such a law. In fact, only one other province, Nova Scotia, has such a law. Why doesn't all of Canada have such a law? Is it too soon?
